Minneriya National Park – Where it located?
This is located 182 km away from Colombo of Sri lanka. This park is closet to Polonnaruwa. This is covering an area of 8,890 hectares. The topography of the park is comprise of evergreen forests alongside rock outcrops and wetlands. Providing a range of habitats to suit a variety of critters. Being part of the elephants corridor which joins up with Kaudulla and Wasgamuwa.
Circling the beautiful Minneriya Tank, is the green surroundings are strikingly different to the arid landscape. We can watching the playful Elephants are bathe, playing, drinking, jostle and heart-warming.
This area is situated in dry zone of sri lanka. The wet season lasts during the north eastern monsoon. From October to January. And of course from May to September considered as the dry season.
Also in this place are 24 type of mammals. including Elephants, monkeys, porcupines, wild buffalo, sambar deers and mongooses. In addition, there are 160 species of birds. 9 species of amphibians. 25 species of reptiles. 26 kinds of fish. and 75 species of butterflies.
