Wasgamuwa National Park – Where it Located? 

This wild life sanctuary  located in the districts of Matale and Polonnaruwa district of sri lanka. It is situated closer to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, at Wasgamuwa (wasgomuwa) wild elephants are can be easily see here. It is also rich in other large mammals in this national park. This park can be reached from many tourist attractions. Wasgamuwa National Park over 36,900 hectares. It’s nearby the Mahaweli river and the amban river in the east and west.

Raining  is receive  during the north-eastern monsoon, from October to January. And July to September is the dry season. Its annual temperature is around 27 centigrade.

Wild Life

Specific Animals?

In this park is home to 23 species of mammals. The park is herds of elephants up to 150 Sri lankan elephants.

The best time to enjoy a lot of animals is from November to May. While All of animals are can easily in the park. Wildlife includes Purple-faced langur monkeys. They are endemic to Sri Lanka.

While  wild boars, spotted deer, buffalo, and rarely leopards. Also sloth bears too. Among the reptiles are water monitors, mugger crocodiles, and estuarine crocodiles too.

Of the 143 species of birds at this park. It includes 8 endemic species. Red-faced malkoha and Ceylon jungle fowl is resident bird in this national park. In addition, endemic yellow fronted barbet, Sri Lanka spurfowl, white-necked stork, racquet-tailed drongo, and lesser adjutant stork.
